They can be very tight, need to be pressed in with the proper tool to keep them straight. Trying to beat them in will mushroom the end.
How are the spindle shafts? They usually are worn where the bushings ride, and will also need to be replaced.
Often a job best left to a shop with the proper equipment, like a heavy truck shop. You can take the axle, bushings, and new spindles in, they size the bushing to the spindle.
