The Hiway Master was truly a car of the future. New materials, concepts and designs came together in the new Essex Hiway Master. Many design details are unknown, but it is know that it was triphibious. That is, it was fully capable of high speed operations on land, water and in the air. Air operations were limited to about 3 meters above the surface (within ground effect.) A standard feature was a three-axis auto pilot. Three dimensional ground tracking radar and an automatic yaw damper are a couple of the many features that made this car so outstanding. It may be of interest to some that the name was changed to the ESSEX TRI-DIMENSIONAL or ETD in 1937.
