I was stationed on a base (Ubon RTAFB) in Thailand that was forty miles from the Laos border. Sappers infiltrated twice while I was there and blew up C47 Transports. At night they thought they were Spookie gunships. They were actually troop transports. Had a few F4 Phantom jet fighters land with shot up landing gear picked up along the Hoi Che Minh trail. An AC-130A gunship crash landed during an attempted landing after being shot up over the trail. One crewman perished in the crash. Definitely a lot of action there for not being in a war zone.
