If you went for a few years without a tv you would begin to see the negative effects it has on people. Shorter attention span, more emotion driven than reason driven, quick to tire when having to think for themselves, irritable when having to formulate a rational argument rather than just spouting off a sound bite they heard on tv, considering themselves somewhat an expert on a topic because they saw a program on the history channel or on Frontline. Television causes mental laziness. Physical laziness too. People who exercise their bodies tend to look down on those who are couch potatoes. People who exercise their minds through reading tend to look down on people who never read and get all their info from the tv. The negative effects of television are insidious. You don't see or feel it happening. But the effects are there. If you went for a year or two without a tv you would start to look at those around you as intellectually lazy and uncurious. You might even start to feel a sense of superiority.
