Personally, I'd go with the 1070 instead. has the 451 as apposed to 401. Probably won't find as many 8spds tho as most had PS where many 970 had 8 spd. I,ve had both. These are as close to an industrial engine as you can get. They are a 5" stroke engine for a lot of low speed torque and three separate cylinder heads like huge industrial engines. They will lug down way better than a 4020 404 short stroke screamer. 1370,s are usually beat to death as most weighted and loaded them down with 7btm plows and they were the "heavy" tillage tractor for most farms back then. 1175 was the best one if you need the Hp because they came stock with turbo 451 and ONLY 8 spd (no power shift) and had the planetary gear rear axle for better durability. They are quite rare but that or a nice 1070 would be my pic. Bout 6 yrs ago I bought a pristine 6000 hr cab & air 1975 1070 for $ 7000. Did nothing but get air working and cab upholstery and sold it for $ 10,500 Sweet tractor it was.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
