My dad served with Patton. He said he was there in Africa when he stood out in the middle of a street and fired his pistol at an attacking German plane. He said he also was there when Patton was ordered to apologize for slapping one of his own men. He transferred to driving a deuce and a half later in the war and when we watched the original movie Patton they showed actual footage and his truck was shown when Patton was directing traffic. I guess later the movie was edited because we bought the movie and his truck isn't there. I asked him about Patton once and all he'd say about him was he was one mean S.O.B. To this day I'm still not sure if that was a compliment or a put down. He died when I was 10 so I didn't get much of an opportunity to find out more.
