My dad was motor sergeant for the 12th Armored div which had been assigned to reinforce the 4th. All Their insignia had been removed to make the Germans underestimate Patton's strength. Dad often spoke of the challenge of moving 200 miles north on track in the snow. Winching tanks out of the ditches and thawing sediment bowls and putting tracks back on. They arrived at 100 percent strength and were immediately thrown into battle. The Germans thought that to be impossible.
