I don't think there is much difference in brands,EXCEPT,for dealer backup in your area.Other than that it is like changing deck chairs on the Titanic. The big thing is to keep it under cover. Not under a blue tarp in the yard.Humidity, rain, snow, sun, all seem to eat lawnmowers.I have a 73 Wheelhorse that has been here since new.It has been through a few new decks, some rear hubs,(they loosen and wallow out)and a set of rear wheels. The tractor had hubcaps and held the wet grass in.Also a half dozen tie rods. The original 12 HP Kohler engine has never once been apart. We think the carb has been replaced 4?maybe 5? times. The throttle shaft eggs the body out.It is starting to use oil now, about a cup in two hours. We're thinking now it might make to 50 years before the engine has to be done or replaced. It has been under cover since day one,It is always started at the lowest RPM possible, not raced up like so many people do,and is always idled a minute before shutting down.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
