Graduated in 1968, first graduating class in a new consolidated high school - go Falcons! Rode the bus much of the time- about an hour each morning and evening. The road by our house which was the closest route to school was being graded/graveled for paving in the spring. So when I needed to drive, one of my options was a 1929 Ford A Model that the uncle who raised mother had bought new - it had the clearance for the muddy, rutted at times road! Three on the stick, two door, no radio, no heater, narrow tires, maybe 55 mph downhill with a tailwind! Otherwise I had the option of a '61 Ford Custom 4-dr sedan, 6 cyl, 3 on the tree or later in the year, '66 Ford F-150 w/ 3 on tree, v-8. Oh, I also had substitute bus driver's license but only had to drive homeward once or twice - don't remember what happened for the usual driver not to be there. From the high school, we traveled a paved route that didn't go by home, back to the elementary school, where we unloaded and reloaded for the feeder routes from there.

This story is about the day my Grandfather Brown (true name) decided along with my parents to purchase a new Ford tractor. It wasn't really new except to us. The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
