I went to buy a 4' level in a local hardware store in Texas many years back. They had 2 of the one I wanted. I went to the checkout and commented that I feel sorry for the fella that gets the other one.
An older guy asks why (I was early 20's at the time, but looked like still in school). Told him the one I left behind was way off, but this one was dead-on. Well, seems he had no idea it was possible to check them. So, I had him go and get the other level.
At the end of the checkout, I marked off a place to ensure repeatability. Laid my level down, then turned it end-for-end, then flipped it. All the readings were the same. Took the other level and tried it and got different readings each time. Afterwards, I made sure they knew their checkout was out of level as well. *lol*
That's still my go-to level!
Unfortunately, my tale is not NEARLY as funny as Jon's tape measure. That's funny!!

After numerous dead ends for a replacement carb, I went to work fixing mine.I soldered new floats on the float arm, they came from an old motorcycle carb, replaced the packing on the throttle shaft with o-rings, cut new ga
