Every one that has done this long enough has a horror story about brokers but when you consider the amount of freight that moves everyday it is a small percentage.
Like I said before with all the regulations and insurance the feds make us carry your biggest fear should have been the broker under bid the job and would not be able to find a truck to take it. Even then all you lost is time.
Even though I have been burned by brokers before I would much rather deal with them than a one man farmer operation hauling stuff on the weekend. Especially with a permit load when you know the DOT will be checking the paperwork all along the way.
