I have some used JD 7000 planting unit double disk openers that I am considering putting on the JD 7000 double disk fertilizer openers. The bearing fits perfectly. Yes, I know the opener blade diameter will have to be worn down or machined down enough to fit. Always wondered why the John Deere double disk openers on the fertilizer units used the thick cast hub and the openers on the seed units used the thinner pressed hub. Primary reason might be that the fertilizer openers would loose their dust caps working so close to the ground if using ones similar to the seed openers. Also, possibly since the fertilizer opener might be running deeper, the thicker cast hub may provide more support to the opener and not flex like the thinner pressed hub. I have seen worn seed openers on the fertilizer units before and they seem to work fine. Any thoughts other than the two that I can come up with? Thanks.

In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
