It really doesn't matter what you use for engine oil. Back in the fifties and sixties and into the seventies when the two bangers on this farm were used heavy dad used 30 weight non detergent and flushed out the crankcase with kerosene once a year. When multi grade oil came in those same two bangers had 10W-30 poured into the crankcase and they ran just as long between overhauls. I don't know if oil consumption was the same or not. Today I still have those same tractors but I have changed them over to 15-40 merely because 15-40 is in the big tractors and that is what I have in bulk.
A friend of mine told me when he was a kid a tight wad neighbor of theirs would come over to get their used oil to use in his unstyled A when he did oil changes. He drained the oil out of his gas A and poured in used diesel oil thinking he was doing the tractor good by changing the oil! My friend said the old A was loose as can be and leaked pretty bad but it kept on running in the field under load all day with that used oil in the crankcase.
