See my post under the previous electric vehicle topic below.
Apparently John Deere is experimenting with both battery powered and corded electric tractors. That's right a real real long extension cord. They claim to be able to get up to 400 horse power from it and it is self driving. The battery powered model looks more like a traditional tractor.
I said my son likes his Tesla 3 because of the technology and performance rather than any big environmental issues. He also likes it because he is saving a lot of money monthly on fuel even when he pencils in the cost of electricity. Here is the rub with that. As more and more evs get on the road it will become just like when gasoline cars became more fuel efficient. The government will lose revenue from fuel taxes. Not really a problem for the government, they can always figure out a way to collect more taxes but it will effect the cost savings of driving an EV. Even so the EVs will still have lower operating costs than petroleum powered vehicles but the break even point will be further down the road. Hopefully the EVs will have a longer life and lower repairs.
