I often wondered about these type of fellows giving away the majority of their money. Is it really them wanting to better their fellow man or just them trying to buy their way into heaven for their misdeeds when they earned their fortune.
One of the earlier one of these guys would have been Carnegie. HE crushed his competition with terrible business practices and treated his workers little better than slaves.
Using Warren Buffet as an example. He has this Grand fatherly vibe NOW in the public world but he helped destroy more companies than he ever saved. He is a classic corporate raider type of fellow. His type is one of the big problems with US corporations anymore. They have to plan short term for the next profit loss report over long term best interest of the company. This is one way China is going to beat us if we do not get this solved. They plan for decades in the future.
As for Bill Gates. He did change the world with his companies computer innovations. His later business practices Stifled competition so Microsoft could be a monopoly. So he is far from being a choirboy. Microsoft now is a detriment to new ideas in the computer world not an innovator.
