Yes, what Tx Jim said.
Tim S. might want to respond.
My own experience is the pump just gets noisy. In one 4020 case I could really tell it in the vibration of the discharge line. On the 4320 it just got noisy but not so noisy I could not drive it. On a 2510 it sounded like the engine was literally coming apart. One of those times you shut the engine down ASAP. I also did a 3020, I am having trouble remembering on that one, I am thinking leaking and noisy. The 2510 and 3020 I rebuilt myself, the issues were obvious once I took them apart.
The 4020 and 4320 I got Re-Manufactured pumps from All States. From their catalog it is a little unclear if they are Re-built or Re-manufactured. The Sales guy confirmed Re-manufactured but he did not know the difference. Hmmm.
I have to admit in my case on the 4320 when I got in there I found the rubber bushings on the pump side were like new. On the dampener pully side they were bad, so bad they may have been down to metal on metal. So ya, I may have replaced a good pump but I was not going to put it all back together and try it. I am in there and anything I suspect or don't like the condition is getting replaced.
So, this is not your issue on the Power Shift. But for others, check both ends of the bushings carefully on the drive shaft to the pump.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
