I'm NOT a Ford man (ask the Ford experts, do as they tell you) but far as I know on that genny you would polarize it BEFORE starting up, by using a jumper wire to momentarily flash/jump from a hot UNgrounded battery post (that would be the - post on a + grounded tractor) voltage source to the gennys terminal.
