on installing alt on 601 ford I forgot the jumper wire from the battery terminal on alt to the #1 terminal on alt, so that jumper, the old generator bat lead to the alt battery terminal, the field or exite wire to the #2 post on alt , also might have to get a diode inline with the field wire if the engine wouldn't shut off , my JD has to have throttle all the way back or can run on,, big thing to remenber is that you have to be neg ground or alt will burn out diodes
