I have a friend that owns a tree service. He has some pretty hairy stories to tell about chuck and duck chippers he had to use when he was young and just getting started in tree work. From what he has told me I am amazed to see them still being used and made. The outfit that clears around the power lines here uses them. Compared to other brands they are less money.
My friend has 7 Vermeers which he feels have enough safety systems on them to be OK to use without undue danger. He also requires one worker to always be at the feed shut-off/reverser bar while someone else is putting branches in the chute.
