Your mention of a tightly packed shed reminded me of a situation when I was with PCA, probably about 1982. We had financed a tractor and line of equipment for a part time farmer. He wasn't making payments, I called and wife said he had fled the coop. My assistant (who I had just hired, and is still with Farm Credit and about to retire) and I went out, and were upset to find all the implements in the machine shed but the only way to get them out was to move the tractor, which was missing a front wheel. We were about to head back to town to borrow a wheel and tire from the JD folks, when she came out of the house. Turns out she had heard hubby was going to come and haul off the stuff, so she and an elderly neighbor had put everything in the shed and disabled the tractor so he couldn't. The tire and lug nuts were in the hall in the house, so we were soon up and running. We had hired a local machinery dealer to haul it off, which he did, but there wasn't enough room on the trailer for the tractor (a JD 2440 I think- about 60 HP). I had been seeking the business of a young, very capable dairyman about a mile away. From visits in the past, I knew he was trying to run a 100 cow dairy (and put up hay) with just an IH 574 and an 8N ford, so I just drove the tractor down to his place. Told his son that I needed to store the tractor for awhile, but they could use it if they wanted. About 2 weeks later Jim comes in and says, "OK, you got me. How much for the tractor and loader?" I gave him a reasonable price (I think about $12,000- how times have changed), and he grinned and said "I don't suppose you'd be willing to finance it, would you?" "Of course", I said, "that was the whole point of bringing it down"!

Today's Featured Article - 12-Volt Conversions for 4-Cylinder Ford 2000 & 4000 Tractors - by Tommy Duvall. After two summers of having to park my old 1964 model 4000 gas 4 cyl. on a hill just in case the 6 volt system, for whatever reason, would not crank her, I decided to try the 12 volt conversion. After some research of convert or not, I decided to go ahead, the main reason being that this tractor was a working tractor, not a show tractor (yet). I did keep everything I replaced for the day I do want to restore her to showroom condition.
