Google "Property taxes by state". Indiana comes in at #22 with #1 being the best. In Indiana your median home valuation is $135400 with a property tax bill of $1164. A lot of other factors come into play. Some states with low property taxes have "other ways" to secure revenue. I suspect that the reason Hawaii comes in at #1 is they can rely heavily on the tourism industry for revenue. Not everyone can do that. Wash DC looks pretty good probably due to federal $$$$ coming into play. New Jersey is the worst (#51) due to corruption, high pay for politicians, featherbedding, unions, astronomical pay for government retirees (most of whom live in Florida), and democrats. Taxes other than real estate tax can offset the numbers, of course. Vehicle taxes and fees, personal property taxes, income taxes I believe there are 7 states that do not have a sales tax. School taxes take the biggest bite. Sun City, AZ used to be good because they didn't let people with children live there. Sales taxes vary. So, if you live in a state that has no sales tax but you don't buy very many things it does you very little good. New Jersey has no tax on clothing. Pennsylvania has no tax on furniture. You're free to take your pick as to where you want to live but it would pay to do a little homework. Moving to Hawaii for the cheap property taxes might not be smart if you had to fly back and forth a lot to visit family, etc.

While this may have been the bread and butter of the belt work in the past (since this is what made the money on many farms), the smaller tasks may have been and still can be its real claim to fame. The thresher would bring in the harvest (and income) once a y
