What I have learned and have seen.
It is impossible to compare taxes. Everyone tells anyone who will listen about how the taxes are so high in the area they live in and the taxes in other areas are so much cheaper. This is a bunch of BS.
You need to compare the tax rate per $1000.00 of assessment value. Then you need to take in consideration of state and local income taxes as some state taxes are high, some are low, and then some stats have no income taxes, Don'f forget to factor in the local sales taxes.
Don't forget some states have low or no income taxes also has a lot of fees / surcharges on cable bill, phone bill, etc. Then there are states that have possession taxes that you have to pay yearly on your truck, pool, solar energy, etc.
Don't forget your vehicle registration. In NY my truck is less than $100.00 every 2 years. In other states its several hundred dollars each year.
In the end, the cost of living balances out. You might pay higher land taxes here, but you have no income taxes, etc....
We all want government funded projects (Paved roads, library, hospitals, etc.) and in order to get that, that is why we pay taxes one way or the other.
