I grew up in NY during the Rocky years, very young in Cattaraugus County, then in Steuben. My gramps owned an IH dealership, a trucking and lime spreading operation, owned a couple farms and rented a couple more, even sold coal in the winter, and was president of the school board- so he new the tax situation pretty well. Every time Rocky came on TV, gramps would go off, that sonofab...!! My dad was a BCI Investigator and was at Attica- he got called upon to fire tear gas from one of the helicopters when they went in, as he was in the command post and was the first guy they could find with the cert to fire gas. So he had his own reasons, as Rocky left the local SP barracks hanging out to dry, to hate 'ol Rocky with a passion. When I go back there, Steuben was humming when I was a kid, great farm country, Schulers, Birds Eye, peas, potatoes, kidney beans, wheat, oat, rye, two maybe three cuttings of hay, lots of dairy- pretty sad now. So now I am in Taxifornia- Prop 13 was great, but they do everything they can to sneak around it. School bonds one after another, but the money gets siphoned away and hey let's have another bond. Sales tax around 8%. Lotto that's supposed to go to schools, but.. Now they're trying another end-around of Prop 13. I live within a half hour of the ports and a bunch of refineries, but we pay much more for gas than inland- might have something to do with The Nephew's almost 50 cents gas tax. You should see our new Sheriff's Office/ palace- looks like a winery

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
