For some reason, me too. I have saved and rescued many over the years. Most were released and flew away, having a just as good chance then before they were encountered and it's really nice to see that happen. Not every one will make it, they are delicate and if they get into a downward spiral, hard to get that turned around.
This guy was full of it this morning, big improvement since Thursday when he literally fledged right in front of me. The other one in the nest played it smart, stayed there with good cover during the bad weather. Both parents are feeding him well too. It's cheating too, they only have the 1 to care for right now while this one catches up. I've cheated, giving him some highly nutritious repto-min, (for turtles). He can fly pretty good, has good lift off. I'm contemplating his release right now, be good to give him another day or 2, problem is feeding during day being at work. 1st day he had to go about 8 hours, but has been fed hourly during the day since.
As soon as he flys he'll chirp, and or when hungry, those parents will be johnny on the spot as soon as they hear him, done deal. These are relatively easy to help out, don't take long and before you know it they are in the canopy following dad around while mom starts a new brood. The reward is when they sometimes come back, they're friendly cause you fed them, but will not depend on you, as they imprinted on their parents.
