Personally I'd take a self-propelled windrower any day but that's just me. I've cut 80 acres of alfalfa in four hours with an SP windrower using less than 30 gallons of fuel (about a third of a gallon per acre). In addition to cutting, conditioning, and windrowing the crop the fuel I was consuming was also being used propel the machine and keep me cool and comfortable. Seems odd that he would be using only 25% less fuel to just cut the crop and nothing else. Plus, I could park at the end of the day and simply walk away and the next morning find the machine right where I left it. To each his own, though.
