I have a MF 85 e242 Cont. engine. Had the same noise trouble. Not all the time but, seemed to knock more at idle speeds. I first thought it was a wrist pin knock. I ran a compresion test found #2 cyl. was only 32 lbs. I removed top part of engine inspecting everything. After removing head I found the head gasket between 2&3 cyl. was blown. I also had head resurfaced and valves ground and reseated.It cost me approx. 200 dols. for parts and my labor,but tractor has more power .And no noise.Hope you the best and Merry Christmas Jim
