In 1964 my father acquired 2 40' tall barns and a tool shed. Cost? Tear them down and remove all the lumber. I was in college 200 miles away. I came home on week-ends to help him. Alone, he had removed the roofs and siding. I helped with the loading and hauling. Then, he pulled the wooden pins from timbers and hooked a long rope to the end of a barn and tied it to the 2 ton truck he owned. They came down. All of the material was hauled about 10 miles to the field behind our barn. In 1965, he started a new 24x40 garage. I spent that summer helping him hoist beams with the 8N and Wagner loader. The garage had a 12' ceiling and an upstairs with an 8' ceiling. All of this was constructed with used materials except nails. Dad died in 1968 and mom sold the farm in 1991. The garage is still there.

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
