That spur went past my grandfathers farm. Yea some strange rail cars both ways. No deep lakes as sub tests were preformed about ten miles west of me in very deep strip pit. They used local crane to raise and lower experiment what ever it was. Crane base of course very private in many aspects yet very good and friendly for local area. During WWII most farmers were declared exempt yet strongly encouraged to take civilian jobs on base. My father was iron worker building amo storage caves while an uncle was a mechanic. Many became permanent workers, however and rightly so ex military were given priority. In collage I went into Lafayette Ind Iron worker union hall to get summer work. Grumpy old union boss started in bitching about in experienced collage kids wanting work with no experience. I stated know what you mean My dad Jim Wilson said back in 1942 through 45 you started out as a miserable pup for him, didnt know your butt from a hole in the ground. My the way my uncle Raymond Griffith is union president In Terre Haute. I went to work on good job for next two summers!!!!!!!!!!
