Mike, IMHO low sulfur is the root of the failures, removing sulfur removed the lubricity in the fuel. Early on in low sulfur I had seen numerous pump and injector failures, it was pretty ugly. In that time period I was chopping with a large self propelled chopper, v12 and a injector pump barrel seized, which broke out the side of the pump. It sprayed oil and diesel fuel all over the very warm engine, resulting in a fire. Numerous fire extinguishers finally put the fire out, but the damage was well over $100k. Since then it has been B5 fuel, and is what we recommend to our customers. B5 doesn't come with out it's own issues if used in seldom run engines though.
