I was mowing along today with my JD 401B, then I see wires burning above the starter. I shut the motor off, then things calmed down. A bare wire shorted from the switch to the fuel shut off valve. I got the wire fixed, and the battery would not start the motor. The battery was already getting week. Of coarse the tractor was about as far as it could be away from my truck. I took the battery out of my truck , and carried it up hill to the tractor, to jump the tractor. It was almost dead no luck. I had a extra marine battery in my truck. It was so heavy I could have never carried it to my tractor. I went home and got a hand truck, and wheeled the marine battery to the tractor, and I was back in business. I for got to mention it happened in the hottest part of the day. Stan
