I believe there are components in the transmission that require hydraulic pressure to disengage. This means that the towing of the tractor while the traction control/transmission maintenance mode is still in the "normal operation" mode, that parts (clutches or bands) get fried. It is because being in neutral is not the same as a gear drive neutral. It doesn't take much towing to cause failure. Reading I have done just says don't do it. If the reason the tractor was being towed was because the SOS was marginal (your description) that was probably its last gasp. Jim
