I have a "new to me" '65 JD 3020 Diesel Syncro. I have the hood and side panels off while going through basic maintenance (filters, oils, coolant, etc) and checking things out. I am new to JD diesels and wondering how noisy they should be? Hard to pinpoint where the noise is coming from or what it is? Rattling or clacking sound from top and front of engine. I went ahead an changed the front hydro coupling bushings as a precaution. I didn't notice the noise as much with the hood and panels on.
It fires right up and doesn't smoke. Not sure if I am being paranoid or need to investigate.
