Never question the power of water and a big reduction box. I got a text at 11 last night asking if I could come take a look at neighbours irrigation reel this morning. “ There’s been a bit of trouble” was the only description I got.
He had disconnected the auto shut off for some reason and had it coming in at the faster setting. Which is all fine if you are standing there to shut it off when it’s in close.
But he got sidetracked and drove away to take care of a beaver dam or something. By the time he got back it was wedged in good and water shooting straight up and then blasting a trench in through the ground.
We couldn’t manually release the dogs with the hand wheel on the reduction box. It was packed in good and bent / broke some of the welds and frame bars. She just kept on pulling.
Luckily I was able to unbolt the flange between the HDPE and the metal pipe. When the last nut came off there was a bang and snap... but release the pressure enough that I could dial it back manually and and get the dog to disengage.
He will need to drag it up to the shop to get it apart for straightening and welding. He will be moving hand lines today. Stay safe out there! Grant
