Out of all the responses only two of you guys mentioned using a two banger. All through the 50's and 60's our neighborhood baler guy had a two banger on the baler. First two banger was a 60 pulling a Case hand tie wire tie baler with the famous Wisconsin. I barely remember the Case baler as I was too young at the time. Second baler was a Deere 14t still pulled by the same 60 but sometime in the early sixxties the 60 was replaced with a 730 gas and the 14T was replaced with a 24T. In 1969 a new 4020 replaced the 730 and we thought we had died and gone to heaven. The 4020 was heavy and strong enough to not pull down with every plunger stroke so we could keep the bales stacked straighter on the rack. With a two banger on the baler the bales tended to start leaning forward on the rack. We did not have backs on the racks. We quit replacing PTO knuckles when the 4020 came into service. The 4020 was later replaced with a 4030, the first gen 2 Deere I had seen so it was an early one. A 336 baler came into play toward the end. After that we got smart and used large rounds.

It increased the farm productivity and, in general, made life easier because more work could be done with this 'mechanical beast'. My dad dreamed that some day he would have his own tractor with every implement he could get. When he rea
