Growing up on dairy farm, we had a two-story big red barn. The cows got milked on the ground floor, the alfalfa (small square bales) were put on the second story. We really had lots of vertical beams for reinforcement to hold up all the hay so that the floor wouldn't move. I spend WAY too much time in that barn, mostly stacking bales perfectly, layer after layer, to get the maximum amount in there without losing any wasted space. I spent so much time in there, I considered that building my home-away-from-home while I was growing up. Whenever I had friends over, my dad would not allow me to go in the barn. I suspect he thought I was going to go smoking with my friends and he was afraid I would burn it to the ground. With the exceptional baby cigar that would occasionally be given out by people I knew, I didn't smoke as a kid and I don't smoke now.
