I always wondered as to how many people were turned off by not so good beer of that or similar era's, that wouldn't have otherwise if they had tried some of which is offered in current times. I remember the after taste of Piel's or similar as a very young kid, as my grandfather would always share one with me. I discovered other beers were better and have been a connoisseur since. As of late, I rarely have any, not even the 1 a day with dinner or after dinner. I always have my basement refrigerator well stocked, lasts a long time lol !
I recall the bad taste of cigarettes, they definitely dull the taste buds. I also remember the darned "high" you get from them, stimulant kind of high you get if you are a non smoker and try one, kind of a nervous jerky, wired, can't sleep type effect, I guess would be similar to cocaine, speed or whatever else does the same. I always hated the smell of cigarettes, still do to this day, never appealed to me for any reason, never smoked with the exception of some very limited experimentation. We used them for punks too, also used to load up our folks smokes with cigarette loads, which were hilarious, kind of powerful too, was so funny to see that cigarette splay out the paper after it went off !
