The red Permatex is called High Tack. I have used it on cork gaskets for many years. It is similar to aerosol contact cement. You apply it to one side of the gasket and to the part which you would like it to stay on if you need to take it apart again. It helps you to to keep the gasket in place during assembly. Last time this came up a number of guys here were using it.
