John,
I have two teenaged boys that I use to help with haying. They live about 200 yards down the road and I know their parents very well. Personally, I wouldn't trust anyone that I don't know and have a personal relationship with. There are so many untrustworthy people in the world today and it seems like they must be breeding.
I've had two things stolen from my barn. A motorcycle helmet and an electric, bench mount chain saw sharpener (it wasn't bolted down). In both cases, I'd had guys doing work on the farm. I couldn't prove who stole the stuff, but it sure seemed too coincidental that the thefts happened when they did. So, except for the two teenagers, I've not hired any temporary help for the past 8 or 10 years.
Your call. You know the local situation and I don't.

The year was about 1967 and my father found a good used Ford 601 tractor to use on the farm instead of "Bob", our old mule. Now my grandfather had had this mule since the mid 40's and he was getting some age on him. S
