Maybe. This 2140 has been a weak starter since I bought it a couple of years ago. Last few starts have needed the battery booster and finally the + cable smoked a little. Cranking speed is way way down even though the batteries test ok. Bench test of the starter spins but sounds a little rough. I have not opened it up as I don't think I"d be much wiser. Searching jd parts online is confusing as they have several different numbers for what appears to be the same starter. Tractor serial 398899 should make it one of the early 2140s (European version) if I'm reading it right. Hopefully the jd parts desk guys will be able to help. Some video of it here.
