I agree that live auctions are the best way to get the best deal. But online do have a big appeal - you don't gotta sit around all day to watch the item you waited for sell for double what you were willing to pay. On an online auction, you can set your max bid and walk away. If you get it, you get it. If you don't, you don't.
The fees are clearly listed - buyer penalty, sales tax, credit card fee, late fees, storage fees...etc. It's all there in black and white. You just gotta adjust what you're willing to pay down to account for the buyers punishment. I've lost a LOT of online auctions, and I'm fine with that. I've also won a few, and I'm happy with that. I just paid for an item I got on Del Peterson's online auction tuesday. Just gotta run down to Stockton IL to pick it up by the 19th.
