Well, he has to learn to make it GO before he can stop it. When I started driving tractor alone, I learned on a CASE L. You had to pull the hand clutch lever back to get it to move. At 8 yro It took all the muscle I had to pull it back, but when it lurched ahead the clutch would lock over center. Stopping was easier. Put both hands on steering wheel and place foot against clutch handle and push forward with foot. The first dilema that I had was when I turned too short with a 16' spring tooth harrow and the diagonal cables extending out to the ends of the equalizer hitch caught the rear tire and came up over the fender. Wheeeu, it took a bit to remember what I had to do to stop. Luckily nothing bent bad including the hitch and fender. Just a couple more war wounds on the tractor and a learning experience that I learned to not repeat. The rear of the fenders already had a few battle wounds before I learned to drive and I didn't catch holey he!! for what happened. Me thinks someone older than me might have did the same thing. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
