I am not going to get into the virtues and pitfalls of conventional tillage versus no-till. Both practices are used around here. Everyone has their reasons for what they do. My one remaining uncle on this farm is nearing 88 years old and his brother/partner passed a little over a year back. We're not going to spend big bucks to go no-till with the future of the farm being in the family much longer is questionable. My deceased uncle had 4 boys and they could not wait to get out of Dodge when they graduated from high school. They now own 1/2 of the farm and all they can see is $$$$$$$$ from the sale of the farm. No desire to keep it in the family and operational. We did upgrade the old 70's CASE 5x18 plow to a much newer 6B vari-width last week though, so moldboard plowing will still be in the tillage program and I just help out and not on the farm payroll so labor costs are minimal. We purposely were looking for a WHITE plow, because the Case had Radex conversion bottoms on it and all the ware parts interchange. Today I am going to fabricate a hydraulic landing system on the plow so it will follow the tractor consistently on our sidehills no matter if I am turning furrows uphill or downhill. Loren
