I used to work for a manufacturer of blood analyzers doing varification testing. One of the tests was urea using reconstituted dried cow urine from a specific herd. Several times a year we would have a rash of failed tests and there were constant arguments with R&D with them telling us we didn't know what we were doing. This went on for something like 5 years. It was finally determined that the cows were occasionally rotated to a grazing field that happen to have some peyote in it and they were getting stoned which was showing up in the urine. So actually the test technically was NOT failing.
