You must have that DT-80x form for all purchases that get processed by NY dmv. I is as valuable as a title. Tip: if state vehicle is from and they require notary of seller signature, then it has to be done. AS explained to me, NY does not care but the title state will not release the title to NY dmv without that. I got caught buying in PA and skipping that when I got the title. Also, know that the DT forms are for killer govnor to collect the tax. I keep some on hand, some in glove box in case I run into some good deal and seller has good title but no clue about the DT's. You will have to have it completed by the seller and yeh, expect the clerk to see if the signatures are a match.
