I presume you bought the car from an Ohio dealer and the title went to OH to get reassigned to you? this is the way it worked for me a couple months ago when i bought a car in Ohio. I thought it was odd that OH would give you a title as an out of state resident but that's the way they do it. Must be to get the extra title $$.
if bought from an individual they would just sign the title over to you directly without going to the state.
in Indiana i just took "My Ohio title" in and they issued me an Indiana title. but i know that is not NY.
