While I have run into two different length shafts on generator engines. (One had about a 2" extension before the taper started.)
There is probably a better than 50/50 chance that the generac engine would mate to the Troybilt generator head because some of the Troybilt generators are Briggs and Stratton products and Briggs and Stratton bought the small generator line from Generac about 12 or so years ago. So there may be enough remaining similarity in the design that you could interchange the engines.
After the sale to Briggs, Generac waited a specified number of years before jumping back into the small generator market again.
