I was at a farm estate sale and one antique item (nothing special) was being bid up to a ridiculous amount like in the thousands for an item that at best was worth a few hundred.
Auctioneer finally stopped the auction to talk to the people.
Turned out a family member that was not present wanted the item for sentimental reasons at whatever the cost and due to a lack of communication several family members were bidding against each other trying to get it for her.
They got it all straightened out and restarted the bidding and it sold for a price in line with what it was worth.

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
