Also on one that size it would be difficult to see how dirty it is if the air is flowing inside to out. One other consideration is pleated filters are re-enforced on the inside (some on the outside as well) but if the element you are looking at is not re-enforced on the outer perimeter i would suggest adding some hardware cloth or other strong screen to keep the element from blowing out.
