Then he had them shipped to the US, I forget the needed hours, but he avoided a big import tax that way. We installed the Howard Rotovator gear box in them. That allowed keeping the pto rpm up, and the ground speed to a crawl. When the 5000 series came out, we did the same for our lease fleet, but did import new for customers, new 3000s also. I left the company the end of 1972, and went to work for one of the pea processors, as field maintenance foreman.

Today's Featured Article - Restoration Story: Fordson Major - by Anthony West. George bought his Fordson Major from a an implement sale about 18 years ago for £200.00 (UK). There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard. From the engine number, it was found that this Major was produced late 1946. It was almost complete but had various parts that would definitely need replacing.
