IH made them post WW II, as the military was getting ready to go to Korea to stop the advance of communism. President Eisenhower had a lot faith in the M-1, so he authorized production of new parts to refurbish existing M-1's-wore out survivors from WW II. IH got one of the contracts for parts & as the Korean conflict ramped up got a contract to assemble all new rifles. At least that's what I've read someplace in an IH history book. Don't know if that's the real story or not, but some "IH historian" thinks it is. Remington-Rand, the sewing machine & typewriter manufacturing company is definitely known for making some of the most highly collectable firearms from WW II. The components of these firearms are supposed to contain some of the finest machined parts of all built.
